We would love more people to join us in helping the people in Marakissa. Please contact us if you have any suggestions on how you can help Marakissa Christians Together. You could also hold a fund raising event on our behalf.
We raised money via crowd funding for the poultry farm project and we hope to embark on a school project in 2026 and will be looking for donations.
People
You can sponsor a child through an organisation that will choose a child for you and then manage payments to the family or school, or you can contact us to give you details of children/ young adults who need help with school fees.
Pray that all people will come to know that God loves us so much that He sent His only Son Jesus Christ to lead us back into a loving relationship with our Father God and become the people He created us to be.
The people in the village don’t have money to buy tools and the quality of those to buy is not vey good. It would really help if you could send a box of unwanted tools, maybe we could set up a system for borrowing them.
Schools
Although there are government run schools, many children do not go to school because their parents have to buy school uniforms, pens, pencils and writing books. This is impossible to do when they are struggling to feed their family. What is even worse, they have to buy their own text books! There are shops in the Brikama, the nearest town to Marakissa, where school books and stationary can be bought.
It is hard to believe that even Teachers sometimes do not have the text books that they are supposed to be teaching from. We bought a text book for Abou who lives in our compound and the Teacher took it and used it to teach the class!
If you would like to help provide books or stationary for a child or Teacher please contact us to discuss how to donate money to buy the Gambian text books or stationary. Stationary can be purchased at home and sent over but bear in mind the cost of sending boxes.
Boys and Girls Brigade
The Boys and Girls Brigade have no funds for uniforms, instruments or any resources. We have started the poultry farm which we hope will raise some funds but donations would be really appreciated.
Church
The Methodist Church in Marakissa have very few Bibles and hymn books and most of them are very worn. Any spare could be sent out if you are willing to pay the shipping fees which is about £40 a box.
